Ramonetures - Ramonetures [1999]

Created by guitarist Mel Bergman, the Ramonetures are hard to define in simple terms. Essentially an instrumental surf band, the Ramonetures separate themselves from the pack by specializing in "re-imagining" established bands work as, well, instrumental surf rock. On their first release, they -- hence the name of the band -- "surfed up" the Ramones, and on the second, they rework the legendary Los Angeles punk pioneers X. While the first Ramonetures was a purely in-house affair, the second release, Johny Walk Don't Run Paulene, features X guitarist Billy Zoom and drummer D.J. Bonebrake. [AMG]

Neptunas - Scratch 'n' Surf [1996]

It's really hard not to love the 'Tunas, even if you think the world needs to be perfect. They have this immediate ability to suck you into their camp, like when you see your child in the high school play. Nothing seems to matter except the innocent unassuming unpretentious fun they are having. The 'Tunas don't play well. They don't ever quite get in tune. They also aren't like a trio of Mrs. Millers. They're surf babes celebrating their fun via their band, and they simply don't care about being great or being stars. I love 'em dearly! This is their first CD, and it's packed with 14 wonderful surf tunes. Pamita, Leslita, & Toastita have once again risen to the occasion in their joyous way. 30 years from now, when the paleomusicological know-it-alls write about the great surf boom of the nineties, they will probably overlook the Neptunas. That will not diminish the warmth they have given us all, nor the value of their just simply being there. [Reverb Central]

Tarantulas - Monster Wave... 100 Feet High [1999]

This debut effort is very cool. Randy J - guitar, Ken Baugh (Ten Penny Heroes), and Chris Valentino - drums have come together with excellent chemistry and original sounds. Their primary basis is spaghetti western, but there's a lot of surf influence here as well. [Reverb Central]

The Tarantulas came together in 1996 when the Orlando, FL, natives Randy J and Chris Valentino first combined forces. Playing guitar and drums respectively, the two brought in bassist Loran Lea, who was soon replaced by Ken Baugh. Together, the trio put together the surf rock record Monster Wave... 100 Ft. High! in 1999. Released the same year, the album sparked a few tours and led to the band beginning work on their second album. [AMG]

Les Jaguars - Les Jaguars Vol. 2 [1964, Vinyl]

The Jaguars were a mainly instrumental group formed in the Saguenay area of Quebec in 1962. They quickly became the kings of the French Canadian rock 'n roll scene due to the creative and experimental style of their lead guitar player Arthur Cossette, who's real name is actually Jean Guy! He pierced his speakers to create his own distortion and fuzz sounds, which he blended into sweet sounds, prefering the melodic tones of the Shadows to the gnarly tuffness of Link Wray.

Like most Quebecoise groups, Les Jaguars have remained a "local" group, becoming popular only in their region and prefering to play dances and hotels (in many of the smaller towns in Quebec, the only nightclubs were found in hotels) in the outlying areas of the province. At first, the Jaguars mixed their twang with horns and trumpets, due to the popularity of dance bands. But they soon gained a great following, and were able to continue playing in a pure rock 'n roll style! [mindspring.com]

I couldn’t find the cover art so just a picture of the guys.
Also the release date various on different sites [‘64, ‘65 and ‘66 is mentioned]

Bruce & Terry - The Best Of Bruce & Terry [1998]

Best known for their hits as the Rip Chords, the vocal duo of Bruce Johnston and Terry Melcher collaborated on countless hot-rod and surf records during the mid-1960s, working under a seemingly endless variety of studio guises. While Johnston was already a well-known West Coast session player, Melcher (the son of Doris Day) had released a series of singles under the name Terry Day before being named Columbia Records' youngest-ever staff producer; he brought Johnston to the company to release 1963's Surfin' Round the World, and the pair soon began collaborating regularly. As the Rip Chords, they scored their biggest hit with 1964's "Hey Little Cobra; " a series of singles credited to Bruce and Terry followed before the duo went their separate ways, with Johnston joining the Beach Boys and Melcher enjoying even greater success as a producer. In mid-1998 the Sundazed label compiled The Best of Bruce and Terry, a 20-track collection of their hits. [AMG]

Fantastic Baggys - Tell 'Em I'm Surfin' [1964, Vinyl]

Although packaged and promoted as a bona fide group, the Fantastic Baggys were actually an L.A. studio project by the duo of P.F. Sloan and Steve Barri. Sloan and Barri wrote many first-rate (and second-rate) pop-rock and folk-rock tunes in the mid-1960s, but were at this point, as evidenced by the name of the group, doing surf and hot rod material. The similarity of the Fantastic Baggys material to Jan and Dean in particular should come as no surprise, since Sloan and Barri not only wrote some songs for Jan and Dean, but also did some vocals on Jan and Dean records of the era.

The Fantastic Baggys did one album for Imperial in 1964, Tell 'Em I'm Surfin', as well as three singles in 1964 and 1965 (which included three non-LP songs); there were also a couple of Fantastic Baggys albums issued in South Africa. (Although there were four Fantastic Baggys pictured on the sleeve of Tell 'Em I'm Surfin', the two other guys were just friends who were not on the records.) The album, in both songwriting and performance, was a pretty close but ultimately derivative and inferior facsimile of circa 1964 Jan and Dean and (more distantly) Beach Boys records. The Fantastic Baggys stopped making records in 1965, when the surf fad faded and Sloan and Barri were more interested in writing and singing more serious and sophisticated material. [AMG]

Jack Nitzsche - The Lonely Surfer [1963]

Jack Nitzsche had one brush with greatness early in his career, apart from his job as Phil Spector's arranger -- "The Lonely Surfer," a classic of the surf music genre. This album attempted to extend his solo career beyond that of a one-hit wonder, with mixed success. The best cuts are songs that are in the same surfer mold: "Puerto Vallarta," "Baja," and "Beyond the Surf." Nitzsche had a gift for melodramatic, ascending arrangements that rose to dramatic crescendos, underpinned by rumbling basslines and clanging percussion. Less successful are a super-slow take on "Da Doo Ron Ron" and remakes of easy listening and soundtrack hits such as "Ebb Tide" and "More," which are given a precious sheen of strings. The one exception is a rather rocking version of Elmer Bernstein's "Magnificent Seven," which sounds like it was made for dancing. This is a pleasant, if not exceptional, set of music for fans of surf instrumentals. [AMG]

Track list;
01. The Lonely Surfer.
02. Puerto Vallarta.
03. Stranger on the Shore.
04. Theme from Women of the World°.

Alan Jenkins' Thurston Lava Tube continue to trash boundaries with creative and tweaky instrumentals that lean on surf. This is an adventurous CD, and not at all for the purist. Meteors - Mental Instrumentals [2001]

This is a surfabilly fan's dream come true. The Meteors have always done a fair sampling of instros in their live sets, and occasionally on record. This CD gathers a plethora of their voiceless goodies onto one disc. A good fun set from a high energy psychobilly/surfabilly band that has been around for a darn long time now. [Reverb Central]

Metalunas - Instrumentals of Terror [2002]

Surf-revival guitarist Mark Brodie -- previously of Mark Brodie & the Beaver Patrol -- formed the Metalunas upon his return to Vancouver from Japan, where he had lived from 1996-97 fronting another surf combo called the Saboteurs. Featuring a rhythm section of Mike Cinnamon (bass) and Rod Moore (drums), the Metalunas made their recording debut in 1999 with X-Minus-One. [AMG]

'Bout time for a new release from Canada's Mark Brodie. The Metalunas' play a splashy and upbeat brand of surf. Oh, out past the end of the last track is a really bad (as in fun and cool) vocal version of "Theme From A Summer Place." Yikes! [Reverb Central]

Sin-Tones - Surf-O-Ghetti! [2002]

Toronto's The Sin-Tones play an unpretentious and thoroughly enjoyable brand of surfabilly. Closer to rockabilly than surf, yet a very good fit in the reverb cafe. Seven instros and six vocals, including "Knot Of Wood," "Mail Order Bride," "Monster Truck-O-Rama," "Trailer Park Sadie," "The Jam Song," and "Yesterday's Tomorrow." [Reverb Central]

Formed in the Toronto area, the Sin-Tones mix an eclectic blend of instrumental surf rock, rockabilly, and tinges of country to produce a wholesome sound. Much like fellow Canadian instrumentalists Shadowy Men on a Shadowy Planet, the band was founded by lead singer and guitarist Michael Hussey. Hussey, a produced playwright and drama teacher at Ryerson University, grew up listening to the likes of Johnny Cash as a child. But his career path changed after listening to a Dick Dale record and watching the motion picture Pulp Fiction with its surf rock soundtrack. The band has scored and appeared in some films as well as appearing on Canadian variety shows. In 2000, the band released their self-titled debut album. [AMG]

Link Protrudi & The Jaymen - Hit & Run [1998]

Set up as a side project to Rudi Protrudi and the Fuzztones, this also functions as a tribute to Link Wray and the Raymen, with no less than eight of the 23 tunes on here being Link classics. Covering everything from "Mr. Guitar" and "Dinosaur" to the obvious choices like "Rumble," "Jack the Ripper" and "Rawhide," the trio also delivers Link-approved originals in "Chicken Choke," "Avalanche," "Backfire" and "Psyclone." Taken from the project's two vinyl albums, Drive It Home and Missing Links, this is straightforward, blast-it-out live-in-a-four-track-studio raunch, devoid of all subtleties. With that in mind, it sounds perfect, totally faithful to the sound and style it's so lovingly recreating here. A delicious alternative to pseudo-surf bands. [AMG]
